The 80G and 12A registration is obtained from the Income Tax Department. The application is filed online through Form 10A on the Income Tax portal. After submission, the department may call for additional documents or clarifications. Upon successful verification, the registration certificate is issued which is valid for 5 years and needs renewal thereafter.
12A registration allows a charitable organization to claim exemption from paying income tax, ensuring that more funds are available for social work and development programs.
80G registration provides tax exemption benefits to donors who contribute to a registered charitable organization, encouraging more people to support social causes.
Donors can claim up to 50% deduction on the donated amount, subject to applicable government regulations.
After successful donation, an official 80G receipt is issued via email or physical copy for income tax filing purposes.
As per the new rules effective from April 2021, 80G and 12A registrations are valid for 5 years and need to be renewed before expiry. Organizations need to apply for renewal at least 6 months before the expiry date.
